Shopify Plus in Malaysia: price, features and when it pays off

Shopify Plus for Malaysian retailers: what Plus adds over Advanced, the published price and terms, a break-even calculation and the upgrade path.

By WebCEO TeamPublished 6 min read

Key takeaways

  • Shopify Plus starts at US$2,300 a month on a 3-year term or US$2,500 on a 1-year term, with a variable platform fee for some larger businesses (checked 18 October 2026).
  • For Malaysian stores, which use third-party payment providers, Plus cuts Shopify's third-party fee from 0.6% on Advanced to 0.2%, and includes POS Pro for the first 20 locations.
  • Plus pays off on sales volume, outlet count or a specific need such as checkout apps on the payment step, expansion stores or custom Shopify Functions.

Shopify Plus is Shopify's plan for larger businesses. For a Malaysian retailer, the question is rarely whether Plus is better. It is whether the extra cost is paid back by lower fees, included POS locations or a feature the business cannot do without.

All prices and features below were checked on Shopify's own pages on 18 October 2026. Shopify changes plans and prices, so confirm current figures with Shopify before committing. WebCEO is not a Shopify Plus partner.

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

Shopify lists Plus from US$2,300 a month on a 3-year term, or US$2,500 a month on a 1-year term, billed monthly.

Shopify also states that more complex, high-volume businesses may pay a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model, which differs for B2B and direct-to-consumer sales. Shopify does not publish the percentage. Ask Shopify for a written quote that states whether it applies to you.

Item Shopify Plus Advanced (for comparison)
Plan price From US$2,300 a month (3-year term) or US$2,500 (1-year term) US$299 a month on yearly billing
Third-party payment provider fee 0.2% 0.6%
POS Pro First 20 locations included US$89 per location per month
Inventory locations 200 10
Staff accounts Unlimited Up to 15

Plus includes 9 expansion stores in the platform fee. Shopify's Plus pricing page lists extra stores at US$300 a month each, or a revenue share. Each live expansion store needs its own theme licence.

What does Shopify Plus add over Advanced?

The differences that matter most are checkout, custom logic, multiple stores, API capacity and retail locations.

  • Checkout customisation. On all plans, eligible apps can customise the thank you and order status pages. Only Plus stores can use apps that customise the information, shipping and payment steps, and the Checkout Branding API.
  • Shopify Functions in custom apps. Stores on any plan can use public App Store apps that contain Functions. Only Plus stores can use custom apps that contain Shopify Function APIs, which is how bespoke discount, shipping and payment rules are usually built.
  • Expansion stores. Separate stores for other countries, brands or wholesale, managed under one organisation.
  • B2B. B2B is available on Basic, Grow and Advanced with up to 3 catalogues. Plus has unlimited catalogues and adds features such as deposits and partial payments.
  • API capacity. Shopify's GraphQL Admin API limit is 100 points per second on standard plans, 200 on Advanced and 1,000 on Plus. This matters for ERP and inventory integrations that sync large catalogues.
  • POS Pro. The first 20 POS Pro locations are included in all Plus plans.
  • Launchpad. Scheduled and automated promotions for sales events.
  • Support. Shopify lists round-the-clock priority phone and chat support for Plus.

When does Plus pay off for a Malaysian retailer?

Run the numbers on fees and outlets first. If they do not pay for Plus, a specific feature has to.

Shopify Payments is not on Shopify's list of supported countries for Malaysia, so Malaysian stores use third-party payment providers and pay Shopify's third-party provider fee. That fee is 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, a difference of 0.4% of the sales it applies to.

A worked example using the published prices:

Scenario Extra monthly cost of Plus Monthly sales where the fee saving covers it
Online only, Plus on a 1-year term US$2,500 − US$299 = US$2,201 US$2,201 ÷ 0.4% = about US$550,000
10 outlets on POS Pro, Plus on a 1-year term US$2,201 − (10 × US$89) = US$1,311 US$1,311 ÷ 0.4% = about US$328,000
10 outlets on POS Pro, Plus on a 3-year term US$2,001 − US$890 = US$1,111 US$1,111 ÷ 0.4% = about US$278,000

These figures leave out any variable platform fee, app costs that change between plans, and exchange rates. Shopify's own upgrade page says brands typically upgrade when online sales reach about US$80,000 a month, which is well below the break-even points above. That reflects features, not fees.

The POS Pro waiver beyond 20 locations, up to 200, applies when Shopify Payments is your primary retail payment provider. Because Shopify Payments is not available in Malaysia, plan on the 20 included locations.

Plus is usually worth it when:

  • You run more than ten or so outlets on POS Pro and sell at volume online.
  • You need checkout apps on the shipping or payment steps.
  • You need custom discount or shipping rules that only a custom Shopify Functions app can deliver.
  • You plan separate stores for Singapore, other markets, another brand or wholesale.
  • Your ERP integration is limited by API capacity.

Stay on Advanced when none of these apply. Advanced already supports B2B with up to 3 catalogues, 10 locations and 15 staff accounts.

How do you move to Shopify Plus?

From an existing Shopify store, Plus is a plan upgrade on that store. From another platform, it is a migration.

For an existing store, Shopify's upgrade page says:

  1. The signing authority for your organisation must make the upgrade.
  2. Shopify upgrades the store to Plus within 24 business hours of sign-up.
  3. The first Plus bill arrives 30 days after you agree to the Shopify Plus terms.
  4. If you have prepaid an annual fee on your current plan, Shopify applies a credit towards Plus fees after you contact support.

After the upgrade, the work is in using what Plus unlocks: checkout apps, Functions, expansion stores, POS Pro roll-out and integrations that can use the higher API limits.

From WooCommerce, Magento or another platform, the steps are the same as any migration: data mapping, redirects, rehearsal and cutover. See replatforming and our Magento to Shopify guide.

For multi-outlet retailers, plan Plus together with POS, mall GTO reporting, LHDN e-invoicing and the ERP. Our enterprise service covers that rollout, and custom integrations covers the connection to your back office.

Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify Plus priced in ringgit?

Shopify lists Plus in US dollars. Malaysian plan prices on Shopify's Malaysian pricing page are also in US dollars.

Can we try Plus features on Advanced first?

Some. B2B with up to 3 catalogues and public apps that use Shopify Functions work on Advanced. Checkout apps on the information, shipping and payment steps, and custom apps with Functions, need Plus.

Is there a minimum contract?

Shopify prices Plus on a 1-year or 3-year term, billed monthly.

Does Plus include POS Pro for all our outlets?

The first 20 POS Pro locations are included. Beyond that, Shopify's waiver depends on Shopify Payments, which is not available in Malaysia, so confirm the cost of extra locations with Shopify.

Do we need a Shopify Plus partner to use Plus?

No. Plus is a plan you buy from Shopify, and the developer you hire is a separate choice. Choose on experience with your requirements. Our guide to choosing a Shopify agency has a checklist.
