Shopify payment gateways in Malaysia compared

Shopify Payments is not available in Malaysia. Compare local gateways for FPX, DuitNow QR, cards, e-wallets and BNPL, with published fees and Shopify's own fee.

Key takeaways

  • Shopify Payments is not available to Malaysian stores, so every Malaysian Shopify store uses a third-party payment gateway.
  • Shopify then charges its own third-party fee on those sales: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced (checked 18 October 2026).
  • Several gateways offer FPX, DuitNow QR, cards and e-wallets on Shopify. Compare the gateway rate plus Shopify's fee against your real payment mix.

Malaysian Shopify stores cannot use Shopify Payments. Every store here picks a third-party gateway, and that choice affects checkout conversion, fees and how quickly money reaches your bank. This guide compares the options that publish Shopify support for Malaysia.

Fees and availability were checked on 18 October 2026. Gateways change rates and plans, so confirm the current rate card before signing.

Is Shopify Payments available in Malaysia?

No. Malaysia is not on Shopify's list of Shopify Payments countries. Shopify's help centre says stores in unlisted countries must use a third-party payment provider.

This has three practical effects:

  1. You sign up separately with a gateway and pass its business verification. Gateways typically ask for SSM documents and bank details.
  2. Shopify charges a third-party transaction fee on top of the gateway's own rate.
  3. Features tied to Shopify Payments, such as Shopify's own card readers for POS and local currency display through Shopify Payments, are not available. For in-store cards, see our Shopify POS price and hardware guide.

What does Shopify charge when you use a third-party gateway?

Shopify charges a percentage of each sale processed through a third-party gateway. The rate depends on your plan.

Plan Yearly billing (per month) Shopify third-party fee
Basic US$19 2%
Grow US$49 1%
Advanced US$299 0.6%

This fee is separate from what the gateway charges. On RM 100,000 of monthly online sales, the Shopify fee alone is RM 2,000 on Basic, RM 1,000 on Grow and RM 600 on Advanced. At that volume, a higher plan can cost less overall. Our Shopify cost guide shows the full budget.

Which payment methods do Malaysian shoppers expect?

Most Malaysian checkouts should offer at least these:

  • FPX, online banking that sends the shopper to their bank to approve payment.
  • DuitNow QR, the national QR standard that banking and e-wallet apps can scan.
  • Cards, Visa and Mastercard, local and foreign.
  • E-wallets, such as Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, Boost and ShopeePay.
  • Buy now, pay later, such as Atome, PayLater by Grab and SPayLater.

No gateway offers every method on every plan, and some methods need a separate application. Check which methods are switched on for your account, not just which the gateway advertises.

Which gateways work with Shopify in Malaysia?

The gateways below either have a Shopify App Store listing or publish their own Shopify setup guide for Malaysian merchants. Fees are as each provider publishes them, checked 18 October 2026. They exclude Shopify's third-party fee and may exclude tax.

Gateway How it connects to Shopify Methods (as published) Published fees Settlement (as published)
HitPay App Store listing FPX, DuitNow, Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, cards, BNPL FPX 1.8% + RM 0.40, DuitNow 1.2%, GrabPay 2%, local cards 1.2% + RM 1, foreign cards 3% + RM 1, plus 0.5% Shopify plugin fee Non-card T+2 business days, cards from T+1
Billplz Billplz-published Shopify integration FPX, DuitNow QR, e-wallets, cards, Atome Basic plan (free): FPX B2C RM 1.25, MYR cards 1.8%, e-wallets 1.5%, Atome 6%. Standard plan (RM 999/year) lowers FPX to RM 0.75 and cards to 1.5% FPX next business day, cards T+2
Razorpay Curlec "Razorpay Curlec" app on the Shopify App Store FPX, cards, DuitNow, Touch 'n Go, Boost, GrabPay, Atome Basic: FPX 1.5% (min RM 1), domestic cards 2.4%, DuitNow 1.2% (min RM 0.30), Touch 'n Go and Boost 1.5%, Atome 6% Not published on the pricing page
senangPay Through the DOKU payment app on the Shopify App Store, per senangPay's guide FPX, cards, e-wallets, BNPL Starter RM 199/year. FPX RM 1 or 1.5%, local cards RM 0.65 or 2.5%, e-wallets RM 0.65 or 1.5% (whichever is higher). PayLater by Grab 6%, Atome 5.5% Not published
Fiuu App Store listing (Razer Merchant Services) Cards, e-wallets, BNPL, over-the-counter cash Percentage per transaction. Rate on application Not published
Xendit Xendit Shopify plugin, listed for Malaysia Check with Xendit for Malaysian channels Rate on application Not published
2C2P Payment app after 2C2P onboarding, per its developer docs Cards and alternative payment methods Rate on application Not published
PayPal Built into Shopify payment settings PayPal balance and cards Domestic 3.9% + RM 2.00, international 4.4% + RM 2.00 Per PayPal account terms

Two points stand out. First, FPX pricing varies in structure: Billplz charges a flat amount per transaction, while HitPay, Curlec and senangPay charge a percentage with a fixed part or minimum. Flat fees favour higher order values. Second, HitPay adds a 0.5% Shopify plugin fee, which is easy to miss when comparing headline rates.

How do you choose a gateway?

Model the total cost against your real sales, then check the experience.

  1. Pull your payment mix. What share of orders is FPX, cards, e-wallets and BNPL, and what is the average order value?
  2. Calculate the full rate. Gateway fee plus Shopify's third-party fee, for each method, at your average order value.
  3. Check settlement. Faster settlement matters if cash flow is tight or you pay suppliers weekly.
  4. Test the checkout. Some gateways complete payment on a page hosted outside your store, which Shopify calls an external provider. Run test orders on mobile and look at how many steps the shopper sees.
  5. Check refunds. Find out whether refunds can be issued from Shopify admin or only from the gateway dashboard.
  6. Plan reconciliation. Payouts from the gateway must match Shopify orders in your accounting system.

Many stores run two gateways, for example one for FPX and e-wallets and another for cards or PayPal for foreign buyers. That is a reasonable setup, but every extra gateway is another payout to reconcile.

When do you need custom work?

Most stores install a gateway app and are live in a day once the gateway approves the account. Custom work comes in when payouts, refunds and fees need to flow into an ERP or accounting system automatically, or when B2B customers need FPX B2B or invoicing. We build those connections as custom integrations, and set up gateways as part of Shopify development.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Shopify Payments in Malaysia?

No. Malaysia is not on Shopify's supported countries list (checked 18 October 2026). Malaysian stores use third-party gateways.

Does Shopify charge extra if I use a local gateway such as Billplz or HitPay?

Yes. Shopify charges a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow or 0.6% on Advanced, in addition to the gateway's own rate.

Which gateway is cheapest for FPX on Shopify?

It depends on your order value. A flat FPX fee is cheaper for larger orders, and a percentage fee can be cheaper for very small ones. Calculate both at your average order value and include any plugin fee.

Can I accept DuitNow QR on my Shopify store?

Yes, through a gateway that offers it, such as HitPay, Billplz or Razorpay Curlec. Confirm it is enabled on your account.

Can I offer Atome or PayLater by Grab on Shopify?

Yes, through gateways that include them. Billplz and Curlec list Atome. senangPay lists Atome and PayLater by Grab. BNPL rates are higher than FPX or cards, so price them into your margins.

Can you set up and connect our payment gateway?

Yes. Talk to us about gateway setup, payout reconciliation or connecting payments to your back office.
